The Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) is a geographical measure used in the UK to assess relative deprivation in small, fixed areas. It combines multiple indicators into a single score, ranking areas from most to least deprived. Essentially, it provides a snapshot of how different areas fare in terms of various aspects of life, like income, employment, and health.

We use 5.7% for inflation in 2023-24, which is an average across the year. Read more about how we calculate this in the methodology.
